Permanent Expansion of Medicare Telehealth

Blog

BIG NEWS! As of December 1, 2023, CMS has permanently expanded Medicare telehealth services to include 144 new services, such as emergency department visits. Recent legislation has also extended many of the telehealth flexibilities that were in place during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Some of these services will remain covered under Medicare through December 31, 2024.There’s a permanent expansion of Medicare Telehealth Services.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has changed the rules to expedite the adoption and awareness of telehealth. Some of these telehealth flexibilities have been made permanent while others are temporary.

The rule allows non-physician practitioners to provide the care they were trained and licensed to give, cutting red tape so health care professionals can practice at the top of their license and spend more time with patients instead of on unnecessary paperwork.
